Since 1987… FM Guiding Services, owner-operator Wes Takahashi, has been working as a tidal water, salmon fishing guide in Bute Inlet and the surrounding waters of the Discovery Islands, northeast of Campbell River, BC.

FM Guiding Services, seasonally based on Stuart Island, BC, provides unique guest experiences in these remote, calm-water environments by offering custom salmon-fishing charters and eco-adventure tours that benefit from Wes’ 35 years of experience fishing and navigating these waters.

The Discovery Islands and mainland inlets, where mountains meet the sea, offer spectacular nature viewing.  From an exhilarating ride of the tidal rapids to an intimate approach to both marine and terrestrial animals, FM Guiding Services' Eco-Adventures provide truly memorable experiences.

Volun-Tourism

Since 2006, I have had the opportunity to volunteer in my off-season for a dental organization: Global Dental Relief (GDR). I am a "trip leader” for GDR; one who facilitates the work of volunteers who participate abroad in dental outreach programs for children.  Through volun-tourism, combining volunteerism with tourism, I've been able to travel internationally and cultivate community in developing countries while utilizing my skills to help others, help others. In some ways, volunteering as a trip leader for GDR is similar to being a fishing guide.  Organizing and facilitating experiences and guiding people through unfamiliar places while keeping them safe, comfortable and happy. And answering all those questions!
